The No Surprises Act: A Legislative Opportunity to Deliver True Centers of Excellence

Date: Aug 13, 2021

Transparency has long been a challenge in the healthcare industry, and it took federal legislation to create meaningful protections for patients. The No Surprises Act is now driving a much-needed engagement between payors and providers, setting clear rules for fair play and positioning payors to meet the responsibilities of a “prudent person,” while bringing transparency to providers.

“The legislation is far from complete, but it offers a great starting point for payors and providers to develop a healthy relationship,” said General Counsel at Veritas Allies.

Compliance as a Pathway to True Centers of Excellence (COE) Programs

While regulatory requirements can feel like an operational burden, they also present a unique opportunity: leveraging compliance to achieve a true Centers of Excellence (COE) experience. By integrating legislative requirements—including provider search tools, price‑shopping transparency, balance‑bill notices, EOB requirements, and ID card mandates—into a comprehensive program, payors and TPAs can create a system that not only meets the law but also enhances the member experience.

Upcoming Veritas Allies Webinar: Navigating No Surprises Act Requirement

To help healthcare stakeholders navigate these new rules, Veritas Allies is hosting a webinar on Thursday, August 19th at 10:00am PST. The session will:

  • Highlight our technology platform for provider search and price transparency

  • Explain how integration with TPAs and other compliance requirements supports a COE experience

  • Explore TPA obligations to plan sponsors, with insights from Mary Beth Donalson of Diversified Benefit Administrators

This discussion is part of a broader series designed to help healthcare stakeholders evaluate their current and prospective cost‑containment strategies and measure them against evolving legislative requirements—including ERISA Section 408(b)(2) Fee Transparency.
